SPREAD OF FESCUE
DANGER ON HAURAKI PLAINS WARNING BY MR. SAMUEL (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Parliament’s attention was drawn to the serious spread of tall fescue on the Hauraki Plains by Mr. A. M. Samuel last evening, during a discussion on the Noxious Weeds Bill which was read the second time. "If care is not taken,” said Mr. Samuel, ‘‘the fescue will spread all over the Hauraki Plains and drive many farmers off their land. Already it has placed many settlers in difficulties. i don’t suggest that fescue should be declared a noxious weed throughout the country, but there are certain districts wherein this could be Profitably done.” Mr. Samuel also called attention to noxious weeds growing on Crown lands ‘I would ask the Government put its house in order as far as noxious weeds are concerned," he said, acfior, 1U ‘ s soingr to take drastic departments" ‘ WUh its own
