PRESBYTERIAN ANNUAL MEETINGS much progress shown For the building of a new church, £1,074 is held by the board of managers of St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Remuera. At last evening’s annual meeting it was reported that an anonymous contribution of £SOO had come in. The cost of erection has been fixed at £15,000, and substantial contributions have been promised. Messrs. J. McDonald and James Hardie were elected to the board of managers. Contributions during the year were •r2 078. Money given to outside objects reached £482, and expenditure, apart from that to missions, was £S7G. The Rev. W. M. Ryburn gave an address on his work at Kherar, India. A motion that the congregation should be financially responsible for the primary classes at Kherar was carried. AT NORTHCOTE When the Northcote Presbyterian Church congregation held its annual meeting, it was reported in the financial statement that the position was the best vet attained. There had been an income of £SOO. The Rev. S. L. Root said that There was £660 in hand toward a new church. Messrs. H. H. Broady, R. McGhie, J. Hay, D. Munro, J. Lockie, P. Brunton, H. Mackinnon, J. Weston, J. A. Robertson, W. Scott and P. Blott were elected to the board of managers. ST. STEPHEN’S. PONSONBY The property acquired in Jervois Road has relieved congestion in the main buildings at St. Stephen’s, Ponsonby, said last evening’s annual report. There has been a fine spirit of co-operation ana, after 52 years’ service, the church is better equipped than ever. The .extended accommodation recently provided has already » >n fully occupied. Receipts were £2,800, a record, and about £B6O has gone to outside objects. The same amount has been set aside for the jubilee building fund. New Communion members were 72, and the total is 439. Messrs. T. King, J. Matthews, E. Farrel, J- Cameron, A. K. Fraser, W. McKinlay, J. Patterson and A. Ridling were elected to the board of managers. PRESBYTERIAN ASSOCIATION Over 140 members, representing 25 branches, were at the annual meeting yesterday of the Auckland Presbyterian Association. Progress in missionary activity was reported, and it was said that members took a prominent part in the missionary responsibilities in home stations and overseas. There were 924 members in the 41 branches, and £1,600 had been raised for the general fund. Officers elected were: President, Mrs. Webster; vice-presidents, Mesdames Harries, Ryburn, Bradstreet, Cole and Miss Wilson; secretary, Miss Young; assist-ant-secretary, Miss Galloway; treasurer, Mrs. Henderson. ONEHUNGA The balance-sheet submited by the treasurer of the Onehunga Presbyterian Church, Mr. J. Hitt, showed receipts amounting to £585 and expenditure £583, and a debit balance of £l7O on the property debt extinction fund. The secretary, Mr. Alex. Cole, reported that the church membership was 261. The Sunday school roll contained 206 names, with an average attendance of 75 per cent., under the superintendence of Mr. F. W. Beckett.
The following reports were also submitted and adopted: Kirk session (Mr. 11 Stoupe). managers (Mr. A. Cole), Sunday school (Miss M. Robb), library (Mr C. J. Byles).
The following managers were elected: Messrs. J. R. Gillman, N. Benfell, W. Moore, J. Bowman, R. Crompton, 11. S. Scott and George Stoupe. Messrs. H. Murdoch and I>. G. Cole were reappointed delegates to the Council of Churches. The Rev. D. D. Scott said that a sum of £1,200 was required for the purchase of a new organ and making extensive alterations in the church buildings. Already £917 was in hand, leaving a balance of £283 to be collected, which he hoped would shortly be forthcoming.
