Mr. Hall Skelton, for Roberts, said that lie and a friend were tourists. • They had intended to tour Mew Zea- ; land with a motor-cycle and side-car, which they got from the Customs yes- • terday. When arrested outside an hotel in Karangahape Road, counsel j continued, Roberts had walked down to the police station with the constable. Ho was not drunk, though admittedly slightly the worse for liquor. He had been trying to start the machine, but had not ridden it while intoxicated “They will be through Mew Zealand In three weeks,” concluded counsel. “Perhaps so,” said the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, “but not on a motorcycle. They are bad enough on those things when they are sober, let alon*when they are drunk. If they want to continue they will have to go by train.” Mr. Hall Skelton: Roberts could get someone to drive for him. I suppose? Magistrate: Oh. yes. Fined £5 and licence cancelled for six months. Sub-Inspector McCarthy: Roberts has no licence except the one he used in England. Magistrate: Very well, no licence is to be issued him in Mew Zealand for six months.
