Wattle Derby Goes To Ngaruawahia
WAIKATO BREEDERS OPPORTUNITY THE BLOOD THAT TELLS AS mentioned in a recent publication of THE SUN, the well known Epsom light-harness enthusiast, W. Webb, is placing his fashionably-bred horse Wattle Derby at the service of breeders in the Waikato district, with headquarters at Ngaruawahia. During the last two seasons Waikato breeders were splendidly catered for by the presence in the district of Metal, the well-bred son of Don Pronto and Annie Bells. This year owner Johnson has decided to remain in Auckland with his young horse, but owners in the Waikato will not be
neglected, as the Epsom enthusiast, W. Webb, has decided to make Ngaruawahia the headquarters for his classy stallion, Wattle Derby, who will be at the service of breeders throughout the Waikato area. Wattle Derby is one of the aristocrats of the Dominion, being by Nelson Derby, a son of Nelson Bingen, while his dam is Wattle, a daughter of Wildwood Junior, breeding which cannot fail to leave its mark, and further enhance the* high grade stock of New Zealand. Nelson Derby was a great perperformer, and since taking up stud duty has sired some good ones, including Loch Moigli and Derby Lynn, whose track exploits are already well known to every follower of the sport. Wildwood Junior, twice winner of the New Zealand Cup, has proved a remarkable progenitor, and his stock have assisted for many years to make interesting trotting history. Being a descendant of such high class sires. Wattle Derby canot fail to make good at the business, and further particulars can be obtained either from Mr. Webb, Epsom, or Mr. W. Thomas, of Ngaruawahia.
