TROTTING
(By ABYDOS) Auckland Club Still Marching Forward NEW SEASON’S SCHEDULES “SPEED, AND YET MORE SPEED” and yet more speed” is the policy laid down by the Auckland Trotting Club in connection with its programmes for the new season, and the important long-distance events for the spring, summer and winter carnivals have all been tightened up. With commendable promptness, the secretary, Mr. A. G. Mabee, has drafted the schedules of the various fixtures for the ensuing year, and the complete list of events, which is appended, makes interesting reading. Auckland’s great Christmas item—the Cup—has this year the short limit of 4.27, and is open only to horses which have recorded this time or been hanTROTTING CLUB GENEROSITY AT a meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club’s committee this week, it was decided to allot the sum of £SO to charity, the Finance Committee to make the allocation. The sum of £25 was also donated to the Auckland Cricket Association’s Coach Fund, this being the third annual instalment of the amount guaranteed by the club. dicapped to do so. The popular Rowe Cup, also run at the same fixture, is confined to trotters capable of going 4.35 or better, while other leading events in the President’s Handicap and Summer Cup have the limits curtailed to 4.28 and 4.30, respectively. The Champion Plate is a special item for the speed kings, who can tramp ten furlongs equivalent to a better than a 2.11 gait. Por the October meeting, the Spring and Alexandra Handicaps have a limit of 4.31, but horses of a 4.33 calibre are eligible to take part. The winter programme provides for eight races each day, instead of seven as has been customary, and the card has been tightened in the Prince of Wales’ and C. F. Mark Memorial Plandicaps to 4.29, those with 4.31 to their credit being allowed to compete. The stake money for the season is practically the same as last year, although on account of the extra races at the winter meeting, the amount for distribution is larger. This fact will be greatly appreciated by owners and the public alike and the Auckland Club should be able to look forward confidently to a wonderful season.
