Courtney, the transatlantic flyer, on Thursday afternoon. The plane was drifting helplessly, with the radio sputtering occasionally. The airmen were picked up 766 miles south-east of Cape Race, Newfoundland, out in the Atlantic. The plane was abandoned. In his wireless message, which was picked up by the Minnewaska, Courtney said they had a terrible experience. The machine caught on Are at midnight at an altitude of 1,500 feet. They landed in flames on a rough sea.
