Annual Function of Public Trust Office SUCCESSFUL AFFAIR The Symondsville .studio was gaily decorated with latticed streamers and lines of multi-coloured balloons last evening, when the staff of the Public Trust Office held its annual dance. Potted shrubs and trails of greenery effectively screened the walls. In the supper room lilac and cicep amethyst streamers looked very | charming interlaced with bunches of j wistaria blossom. Mr. J. Rowe’s orchestra provided cheery music for the dancers. The members of the committee were: Miss K. Carran, bouffant frock of apricot taffeta and silver lace. Miss X. Dnnglow, palest primrose georgette worn over blush pink crepe de chine, sash of gold lame. Miss F. Forster, rose georgette frock with hand-painted godets inset into the skirt. Miss E. Grant, dainty frock of poveder blue georgette, trimmed with tiny georgette frills and pink rosebuds. Miss L. Kennedy, corsage of cherry lame and full skirt of georgette of matching shade. Miss X. CHILDREN’S DANCE IN FANCY DRESS The annual children’s fancy dress ball was held at Tauhei recently* The prizes were awarded as follow:—Most original, Keith Williams (Tabby Cat) and Meryl Williams (Bunny); best costume, Glennis Holland (Summer) and Humphrey Tibbs (Gollywog). Prizes were also given for adult costumes as follow: Most original, Miss Stark (Victorian Lady) and Mr. Innes (Aerated Waters): best, Miss K. Noble (Witch) and Mr. S. Brown (Coon). PRESENTATION Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Downes were entertained at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. Y. Collins on Thursday by members of St. John’s choir. A very enjoyable musical programme was contributed by the following artists: Songs by Mesdames Osborne, Atkey, Locke and Miss Aldridge, and Messrs. Aldridge and Holt, and a duet by Misses Norman and Dunkley and a pianoforte solo by Mr. Puryer. The vicar. Rev. R. H. Trill, presented the guest, Mrs. Downes, with a framed enlargement of the stained glass windows in St. John’s Church. He also took the opportunity of welcoming Mr. and Mrs. Puryer to the district. Mr. Puryer is accepting the position of organist to. the church. Mr. and Mrs. Downes acknowledged the gift and the sentiments accompanying it. BRIDGE PARTY Mrs. Innes Verco* entertained a number of guests to a bridge afternoon at her residence. Paengaroa. She received her friends in a smart gown of figured jersey silk. The first prize was won by Mrs. A. A. Macfarlane. Mrs. Carpenter won the second prize, and Miss W. Watson the consolation trophy. The drawing room, where bridge was played, was charmingly decorated with bowls of roses and spring bulbs. Those present were: Mesdames Macfarlane, Davies, Granger, Carpenter, Simpson, Twigg, H. Wickham, D. Wickham. W. Wickham, Ball, Wilson, Cawte, Hickson, Misses Dobson (Blenheim), Watson, Jamieson. Instead of a hot poultice on the face for an abscess on the gum, cut some raisins in halves, take out the seeds and cover them with boiling water for a few minutes; then place them with the cut edge inside the mouth on the gum near the aching tooth.
