HOBSON BAY AGAIN
LAND FOR RAILWAYS SECURING SEA FRONTAGE When it was announced at the Auckland Harbour Board meeting yesterday afternoon that the Railway Department proposed taking about 27 acres in Hobson Bay instead of the area already taken, the board went into committee to deal with the report on the subject from its engineer. “The engineer’s recommendations are important,” said Mr. M. H. Wynyard, acting-chairman. “An endeavour should be made to secure the frontage. It would be an important endowment.” The land is on the Auckland-West - field deviation, and the board’s engineer considers that the area now viewed by the department is more valuable than that taken, from the board’s point of view. He suggests that, in the event of the department proceeding with its scheme, that the board should attempt to retain a strip of six acres along the frontage.
