HOLIDAYING IN AKAROA
WHAT A VISITOR FOUND Recently a Wellington business man and bis wife spent a holiday at Akaroa, the original French Settlement on Banks Peninsula, which is of such historical interest to New Zealanders. ’Twas here in 1840 that Captain Stanley hoisted the British flag a few days before the arrival of the French fleet. It was some years since the man had been in Akaroa before, and when he arrived in the town ,he had a sore throat. Chatting to his wife the next morning he remarked that there were very few changes and that the township looked much the same as it did when he was there before. “And do you know," remarked the gentleman, "I had a sore throat when I was here on the last occasion?
