Prison Robbed by Barefoot Burglars

FRENCH COMEDY WARDERS’ WAGES STOLEN {Australian Press Association J (United Service) Reed. 1 p.m. PARIS, Monday. A Paris message states that despite armed warders and a night-long patrol, three barefooted burglars, supposed to be ex-convicts, entered the county prison at Melun early in the morning and removed the safe from the governor’s office. It contained £I,OOO. warders’ wages and prison maintenance funds. The robbers scaled a wall by means of a ladder taken from au adjacent building, sawed through the iron window-bars, hauled and lowered the safe with ropes, and escaped in a motor-car. The safe was found open in a forest seven miles away.
