MUSEUMS AT AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON MOUNT EDEN’S CONTENTION When ihe museum at Wellington was placed on a solid footing, good advice came from Government scientific experts. . This is what the Mount Eden Borough Council wants to see done for the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Failing such advice, a Government subsidy should come to hand, the council contends. In a letter to the Auckland Institute and Museum, the council said that both museums should be placed on the same footing. The War Memorial Museum Maintenance Act and its proposal that maintenance should rest with the population affected received the council’s sympathy, but it suggested that assessment should be based half on valuation and half on population. There should be provision for the forwarding of financial estimates prior to assessment to local bodies. T^i e council asked what efforts were being made to get expert advice for die museum. If such alterations were made, the council said it would approve of the BUI. provided otl*r local bodies do so.
