HIPPODROME
“JESSE JAMES” TO-MORROW “Jesse James,” which will be shown to-morrow at the Hippodrome Theatre, is a story based on one of the most heroic and romantic figures in American history. The role of Jesse James is interpreted by Fred Thompson, the popular outdoor star. The opening scenes of “Jesse James” show Jesse as a member of Quantrell’s Partisan Rangers, the guerrilla Confederate cavalry outfit with which the James brothers fought during the Civil War. As the dListy horsemen approach a river, they are given permission to go in swimming. Jesse comes up under a willow tree, and startles Zerelcla Mimms and Martha Sumner. Zerelcla is interested in the debonair soldier, in spite of her haughty dignity. That night, General Grant and his men camp at tlie Sumner plantation and are received with cold courtesy by the Southerners. A Union sergeant is yanked into a bush on the Sumner grounds, and Jesse appears before Grant in his uniform with a map. Zerelda threatens to expose him. He saves her the trouble, disappears in a fireplace, is shot at on the roof, suddenly reappears in a negro cabin, beats pursuing bloodhounds to the river, and gets away on Silver King, who has followed him into the water in response to a whistle. The second attraction is the enjoyable picture, “Loves Make ’Em Wild.”
