SUICIDE BY HANGING

DEATH OF FARM MANAGER RECENTLY LOST HIS POSITION (From Our Own Correspondents) TE AWAMUTU, Thursday. The circumstances surrounding the death of Qharles Dixon McVinish. farm manager at Te Rahu, who was found hanged in a whare. was held today. Evidence was given that deceased was dismissed on Monday. He returned to the whare and yesterday had dinner with a fellow worker, afterwards saying he wanted to be alone for a few hours, but his companion was to look him up in the evening. Two hours later the companion looked in to the whare, and saw McVinish’s body hanging by a rope from a rafter. Further evidence showed that McVinish had no relatives in the Dominion. He had spoken of two brothers in Scotland. He had intended seeking work and advertised for a job. A search revealed the fact that his only valuables were a 10-shilling note and a notebook. McVinish had never indicated his intention to end his life.

The coroner returned a verdict of suicide by hanging while in a depressed state of mind.
