Buckley Wants Trial By Jury
PRISON-BREAKING CHARGE WELLINGTON SENTENCES Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. A preference for trial by jury was expressed by John Leslie Buckley, when he was charged with escaping from Mt. Eden Gaol. John Leslie Buckley, . the prisoner Who escaped from Mount Eden prison and was subsequently arrested in Wellington, was sentenced to-day to four months’ imprisonment on each of three charges of theft, the terms to be served concurrently with the present sentence. On three charges of breaking and entering he pleaded guilty. He was remanded to appear at Auckland on Friday for sentence. To a charge of being an incorrigible rogue, in that he escaped from prison before the expiration of his sentence, he intimated that he intended to plead not guilty and to elect to be tried by jury. He was also remanded to Auckland on this charge.
