LARGE HOUSE ABLAZE

FIRE AT MANGERE LITTLE WATER AVAILABLE (From Our Oxen Correspondent.) OTAHUHU, To-day. A six-roomed house in Massey Road. Mangere,-was completely gutted by fire shortly after one o’clock to-day. The house had been unoccupied for a week. The owner. Air. George Blamford, was renovating the building and had lighted a fire this morning under the copper in the wash-house. This was apparently out when he went to lunch at 12.30, but the house was found on fire half an hour later. The building, which was valued at £9OO. was insured for £6OO with the British Traders’ Company. The Otahuhu Brigade turned out, but insufficient water was available for fire-fighting.
