FIVE YEARS' WORK FACES INSPECTORS

SAFEGUARDING CITY’S 50.000 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS

Nearly 50,000 separate installations have to be examined by five inspectors of the Auckland Elec-tric-Power Board under the new regulations of the Public Works Department. The inspection of all connections in a power area must be made at least once in five years, and the Auckland inspectors are now engaged in their work. But they will not be finished for five years. Then they will have to start their rounds again. NOTHING MISSED In the electrical business, nothing must be overlooked. Every piece of wiring will be tested and a complete inspection of some of the city’s large buildings will be a problem of some magnitude. It has already taken one inspector two weeks to go over installations to which are attached some thousands of electric points. A separate department has been formed to control this side of the electrical business. A special filing system will bo used and consumers are to receive cards from which it is possible to see if installations need attention. The danger of fire and serious breaks will be largely overcome by this enforced examination.
