NEW RAILWAY YARDS
GRADUAL CHANGES Although the man in the street seess little difference day by day in the Auckland railway yards, quantities of rails are being gradually moved and a general change is taking place. Tho whole of the permanent lay-out of the new yards is taking place in accordance with the prepared scheme, and work is progressing satisfactorily to make way for still bigger changes which are to come with the completion of the whole works. One day last week a huge 80-ton “scissors” of rails was put into position. This was done by constructing the “scissors” out of position and then moving it over to its place during a slack period in the yards. The whole thing was done without a hitch with the aid of hand winches, skids and jacks. The engine service is now running on temporary lines to the new engine depot at Campbell’s Point.
