MISS ELLIOTT’S RECITAL
ARTISTIC PERFORMANCE That New Zealand singers can command attention in the musical centres of Europe and Amei'ica has been proved once again by .the success achieved by Miss Beatrice Elliott, a resident of Auckland, who has just returned after filling successful engagements in Amei’ica, and who gave a recital at the Town Hall concert chamber on Saturday evening-. Not only in Miss Elliott’s voice, but also in her artistry and technique, is the benefit of her extensive Continental training reflected. Her voice is a rich di'amatic soprano, and it was used with considerable artistry in a programme of songs which covered a wide field of vocal art. The programme, which contained a large sprinkling of the modern composers, contained an excellent variety of numbers, which were handled with proper appreciation of their varying requirements. Miss Elliott is evidently a firm believer in the value of the words. Her enunciation, always delightfully clear, was one of the many pleasing features of her art. Excellent phi'asing also contributed to the artistry of her performance. Miss Elliott’s numbers were received with unmistakable signs of appreciation, and at the conclusion of her last bracket the vocalist had to respond to an insistent demand for additional numbers. ’Cello solos by Miss Mollie "Wright were also well received, and contributed not a little to the success of the recital. Mr. Leo Whittaker made an able and artistic accompanist.
