LASZLO SCHWARTZ

COMING TO AUCKLAND 'Laszlo Schwartz, like so many of his fellow Hungarian artists, is a born violinist. One is never so impressed with the vast difference between the “hothouse” type of violinist and the “born violinist” as when he hears the spirited playing of this temperamental Magyar. Not only is Laszlo Schwartz a favoured violinist from the land that has given the musical world Joachim, Hubay, Nachez, Flesch, Vecsey, Erna Rubenstein, Ernst, Hauser, and others, but he is also a well-known composer of songs. A New York critic said of Laszlo Schwartz: “If ever there is a more poetical and powerful interpreter of Hungarian music than the gifted Magyar, we are still to hear of him.” Laszlo Schwartz will be heard at the New Regent Theatre, next Friday in conjunction with Dawn Assheton.
