SCOUTS’ NEW HOME
POSSESSION TAKEN TO-DAY DEVONPORT CEREMONY Devonport Boy Scouts took possession of their new quarters on Mount Victoria to-day. and also received their new colours. The quarters were used formerly as part of the fort officers’ accommodation and later by the naval establishment as a laboratory in carrying out tests with hundreds of tons of ammunition, which was stored in the magazine buried deep in the hill. Mr. IL T. Michaels welcomed tlm visitors, among whom were Scout Commissioner Grigsby, ex-Commis-sioner Boswell, Mr. Mead, secretary of the general headquarters of the Auckland Boy Scouts. Captain Gillespie, of Narrow Neck Camp, Lieut. Woods and officers of the Calliope Sea Scouts, and Scout troop officers from city and suburban groups. The Mayor of Devonport, Mr. IC. Aldridge, presented to the troop the colours given to replace the time-worn banner now in use. Afterwards the new rooms were declared open. Short speeches were made by Air. Scoble Cornish, vice-president of the troop, and visiting officials. The Devonport United Band was in attendance.
