PUKEKOHE’S REQUEST

AGRICULTURAL SIDE OF EDUCATION SEDDON COLLEGE MEETING Representations have been made by the principal of the Pukekohe Technical College to the board of managers of the Seddon Memorial Technical College that the agricultural institution at Pukekohe is sufficient for the pupils of Auckland and the district south of Auckland. This was reported at the Seddon College board of managers’ meeting yesterday, |3ut no action is to be taken, taken. Concerning the extension of agricultural work, the agricultural advisory committee considers that an area of 25 acres is necessary. Its opinion has been sent to the Department of Education. Ten acres should, it is considered, be devoted to stock, two to bees and poultry, one to experimental box-plants, six to cropping and manuring and six to horticulture and orchard work. The committee has considered whether the establishment of a separate farm school at One Tree Hill is preferable to a branch technical school at Otahuhu, with a well-equipped agricultural side. It favours the latter suggestion. Donations for agricultural clubs have been received from the Farmers’ Union, the Auckland Grain, Seed and Manure Merchants’ Association, and the Auckland Provincial Fruitgrowers’ Council.
