HAMILTON MAN’S WILL TECHNICAL COLLEGE WANTS SHARE Under the will of the late Mr. Herbert Smith, of Hamilton, £IO,OOO was set aside for prizes for athletics among New Zealand young people from nine to 15 years of age. Yesterday afternoon, the Seddon Memorial Technical College Board of Managers discussed applying for money under the provisions of the fund. Life-saving instruction was suggested, but it was pointed out that prizes are definitely stipulated. A definite scheme is to be given by the principal, Mr. G. J. Park. HALL FURNISHING
A report from the principal regarding the furnishing of the new hall stated the work was approaching completion and suggested expenditure on the following articles of equipment: 193 seats for gallery, £290; 200 chairs for the main hall, £150; gymnasium apparatus, £150; stage curtains and hangings, £6O; board room furniture, £l2O. The total estimated expenditure was £770. The school council, it was stated, had offered £ 200, which would be subsidised by the department, conditional upon the object being approved by the Minister of Education. The report was referred to the finance committee.
The department approved a grant of £2BO for home science classes, and £29 4s for electrical instruments.
