NEW REGENT
FLORRIE LE VERE AND “SECRET HOUR”
The New Itegent Theatre will present this evening the latest dramatic ■ ————■«• triumph of the world - renowned actress, Miss Pola Negri, who will be remembered for her last picture, the impressive murder trial story ‘The Woman on Trial.” In this story Miss Negri portrays a poor waitress, named Annie, a girl who is tired of being a waitress and longs for some-
The theme is the age old love triangle of two men who love the same woman, although in this story, the plot has been given an unusual twist that will keep the audience guessing for a long time. The scenes have a lovely background in the orange groves of California.
Kenneth Thompson plays the role of the young man who wins and marries the girl and Jean Uersholf interprets the role of the older man who loved the girl just as much, but was ashamed of his age and grey hairs.
He gives a marvellous portrayal when he impersonates a man of sixty, the type that is still hale and hearty. His brown hair is greyed, his face is skilfully lined, and his walk and manners are those of a man three-score years old.
On the stage there is presented a unique vaudeville act by Miss Fiorri© Le Vere.
Miss Le Vere is an accomplished dancer, and specialises in the eccentric type. The best medium of expression for her is impersonating several wellknown screen stars, particularly Marion Davies in ‘‘Little Old New York” and in male impersonations. The act is elaborate and well staged. Of special interest is Lou Handman himself.
Mr. Handman is a composer of popular music, and among his pieces are “Blue.” “My Sweetie,” and “Charleston back to Charleston.” He plays well and sings several of his own compositions.
The musical side of the programme is, as usual, in the hands of Mr. Maurice Guttridge and the Regent Operatic Orchestra.
