THE PROGRAMME GLUTTON
Sir.— It is to be regretted that the writer, “Crystal Set,’’ did not sign his name, because he is quite a Dickens character. We can imagine him going home, and, like Bruin, glaring around for his tea. After this we can see him fixing a pair of phones to his ears and listening-in for about two hours, and, mind you, that for nearly 365 days of the year. Naturally he gets satiated with entertainment. I would suggest that occasionally it would be better for him to do a little study or some gardening, thus breaking the monotony. I also am a crystal set owner, and, of course, can only get local talent. The programmes have been of good quality. Some items I do not care for, such as jazz, but it gives me great pleasure to know that there are thousands of listeners who do. Although fond of music, I do not listen in nightly, because, as someone once said, “I am very fond of honey but still I can’t eat a barrel of it.” It is to be hoped
“Crystal Set” will read the above, mark, learn and inwardly digest, and try to make himself. and others, happy. J. R. CARLSEN.
