IMPROVING PACERS

Sir,— I would like, through the medium of your columns, to make a suggestion to the Auckland and Otahuhu Trotting Clubs before they draw up their new season’s programmes. It is in respect to the tight limits imposed in the improving pacers’ class. At the Auckland Club’s meeting no pacer is allowed to start in the improvers’ class unless it has recorded 2.20 to the mile. The Otahuhu Club is a bit more lenient and has made it 2.26. During the whole of the season just past no maiden succeeded in recording 2.20 to the mile at the country fixtures, and so winners at the country meetings are still unable to compete at Epsom. To remove this anomaly I would respectfully suggest to the above clubs that they insert a clause that winners at country meetings are eligible to compete. It must be fairly obvious that horses that win at the country meetings must be able to go 2.20 to the mile or their trainers would not bother with them. INTERESTED.
