SO-CALLED ANTIQUES ARE “VILLAINOUS”
SCULPTOR’S OPINION “The so-called antiques are playing a villainous part in regard to decoration,” Mr. R. O. Gross, the well-known sculptor, informed the Auckland Society of Arts last evening. The absence of carved woodwork in New Zealand houses was the subject for comment by Mr. Gross, who regretted that this field of ornamentation was not more extensively exploited in view of the pride New Zealanders took in their carved Maori houses. There was unlimited scope for those who appreciated the artistic and the beautiful.
