PLAGUES VANQUISHED
HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE British Official Wireless RUGBY, Wednesday. About 1,400 delegates from most of the European countries, the British Dominions, and the United States are attending the annual conference of the Royal Sanitary Institute at Plymouth. Viscount Astor, in delivering the inaugural address, refererd to the improvement in the health of the community. He said that in Britain today fewer lives were lost from plagues, including smallpox, in a year, than were lost through accident on a public holiday. A wonderful improvement in public health had ben achieved by making more available for everyone sunlight, fresh air, wholesome food, and pure water, rather than by the use of drugs. Better factory conditions had. also largely contributed to the result.
