POSED AS BANK OFFICIAL JEWELLER’S BIG LOSS A Marseilles jeweller, M. And™ Jullien, after having cashed a cheque for 10.000 francs at his bank, had gone about 200 yards of the way back to to shop when a breathless young m* ll came up to him. “I am sorry f sir,” said the young man, “but the bank manager woold be glad if you would came back to the bank, as some mistake has been made in the taking of the numbers of the bank notes given to you.” The jeweller walked back with the “clerk,** w T ho showed him into ante-room leading to the private offlco of the bank manager. There he asked the jeweller to wait for him a few minutes, while he vet* to see the manager, adding, "Will T Oll kindly give me the notes?” The jeweller did so, and the clerk with the 10,000 francs in bis *>* nd ’ entered the manager’s office. A few' minutes later he reappeared, shut the door of the manager fi office? and said to the jeweller, with a bow, “The manager is waiting you. Will you please to go inT* M. Jullien soon found himself in tie presence of the bank manager, when the latter asked him what ibusiness was, he was thunderstruck. The jeweller explained. “But I have never seen the yoang man who has just been in my office, said the manager. “He asked me he could get small notes for the 10, francs. I told him to see the downstairs!” Both jeweller and bank man*#* rushed downstairs, but the astn».e had disappeared.
