COUNCIL THREATENED
ENGINEER’S CLAIM ONEHUNGA STANDS BY ITS GUNS The sum of £4OO is demanded from the Onehunga Borough Council by Mr. John Dawson for services rendered in reporting on a tentative scheme of drainage, proposed to be carried out by the council in conjunction with the Ellerslie Town Board. In case of failure to obtain payment the council is threatened with legal proceedings. The Mayor, Mr. AY. C. Coldicutt. at the council meeting last evening, said that Mr. Dawson had not carried out the instructions of the council and that the Finance Committee, after full consideration of the claim, was quite prepared to contest it in the courts. The question was referred to the council in committee. The Health Department in its monthly report on the Onehunga water supply has certified that it was free from all impurities. The district fund account of the Borough Council, which met last evening, is £4,399, in debit. The following accounts are in credit:—Drainage advances loan, £173: water mains loan, £399: destructor loan, £65. Accounts amounting to £3,024 were passed for payment. The railway engineer is to be requested to confer with the council with a view to repairing the roadway leading from Queen Street to the wharves. The customary token of respect was paid to the meihories of the late Mrs. Neale and Mrs. J. E. Hill, two old residents of Onehunga, whose deaths occurred recently. Letters of condolence are to be sent to their relatives.
