New Self-Loading Rifle Fires 35 Shots A Minute

(United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (United Service) Received 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. “AFTER protracted trials, the 8.5. A.-Thompson rifle, has won the British Government’s £3,000 prize for the best satisfactory self-loading rifle,” says the “Daily News.” It is simple in construction and easy to handle, enabling 35 shots to be discharged in a minute, which is almost twice as many as at present. It is hand-operated. Also, more accurate shooting is claimed. Backed up by % the modern machine-gun, the new rifle will be sufficient to meet any requirement in modern battle tactics.
