The scene of the occurrence is in the zone shaken by an earthquake in April. It is thought the obstruction may be a rock which was thrown up from the floor of the sea. The Warspite is a battleship of the Queen Elizabeth class. She was laid down in 1912 and completed in March, 1915. Pier displacement is about 30,000 tons loaded, length 643 ft. She cost over £3,000,000. She was recently reconstructed. SIXTY FATHOMS SHOWN British Official Wireless Reed. 10.45 a.m. RUGBY, Friday. The Admiralty reports that the battleship Warspite yesterday afternoon struck an uncharted obstruction near Repi Island. The chart shows between 57 and 60 fathoms of water at this spot, which is near the island of Skiathos, in the Aegean Sea. The ship will probably have to return to Malta to be docked.
