SCHOOLBOY KILLED
RUN OVER BY CAR DRIVER “UTTERLY BLAMELESS” (Special to THE SUN) HAMILTON, Friday. An adjourned inquest was held today concerning the death of Kenneth Charles Brinkley, aged seven years, who died at Mangaiti on July 3 as a result of being run over by a motorear. The evidence of the driver and passengers was to the effect that the boy had alighted from a closed car which stopped opposite the railway siding gates. The travelling car slowed to 13 miles an hour. It swerved to pass the closed car, which was moving off after discharging its passenger, who had been given a lift home from school. He appeared to run toward the station, but turned suddenly, and, head down, darted across the road. He was not observed by the driver of the oncoming car until it was too late to avoid an accident. After hearing the evidence, Mr. J. C. Carroll, who appeared for the parents of the boy, said the boy’s parents had asked him to inform the coroner that they were convinced the driver of the car was utterly blameless for an altogether unavoidable accident. The coroner, Mr. J. Morley, returned a verdict that deceased had died as the result of injuries received through being run over by a motor-car, no blame being attachable to the driver.
