FRUITFUL FRANKLIN
FARM AND HOME EXHIBITS The fruitful hills and downs of Franklin have given of their best to make a commanding exhibit in the district court, but the array also reflects the domestic activities of this closelysettled and prosperous area. Dairy production, which is said to b*> worth half a million pounds a year i«* the district, is represented with choice samples of butter and cheese. Honey from healthy apiaries, wool. meat, grain, flax and roots give proof of the claim of the district to I>e self-support-ing. Who has not heard of the fainoqs potatoes grown in multiple crops on the sunny slopes of Pukekohe Hill and welcomed in the most southern parts of the South Island? They are prominent in the exhibit, in big, appetising tubers. Grapes and the wine made from them at Te Kauwhata State Farm are there. Even an exhibit of coal from Bombay and bricks made there Home industries are represented in a mouth-watering display of cakes, sweets and fancy cookery. Wood-carv-ing, joinery and needlework are a credit to the craftsmen, and there is a large working model of a power-launch made by some talented and patient builder. The arrangement is a credit to the aesthetic sense of the people who set it up. It is a splendid show.
