WEALTH FROM POVERTY

DISTRICT COURT Captain Cook, usually so sound a judge, has rever received such heaped proof of a mistake as is assembled in the Poverty Bay provincial court at the Winter Exhibition. Decked out in artistic array and harmonious colour scheme, the Poverty Bay court holds a commanding position in the covered area which connects the. four sheds. Here is a magnificent display of fruit, oranges and lemons in a score of varieties, apples in every shade and kind, grapes, even tropical bananas. Vegetables, including a massive pumpkin 1481 b in weight, maize, corn, barley, oats, and tobacco, all pay tribute to the richness of the district, and the delightful climate. Butter and cheese from the four dairy factories, pork and bacon, tinned meats, tallow and bone manure show the industrial prosperity. In the wool display are some strange fleeces, naturally graduated in colour, from black to "hite. Game abounds in the district, and it is represented with pheasants, hares, snipe, quail, deer and wild pigs, some splendid “heads” being mounted. The human element is not forgotten. The court proudly shows pictures of the late Sir James Carroll, of Tom Heeney the fighting star, and Miss Norma Wilson, the Olympic sprinter.
