KATTON MATCHED WITH HUGHES AT NAPIER
AUCKLAND BOXER’S TEST Auckland’s undefeated featherweight boxer, Matt Hatton, lias been matched with Archie Hughes, of Aust?:alia, the fight to take place under the auspices of the Napier Boxing Association on Monday, July 30, for a purse of £IOO. Hatton showed himself to be in fine form last week, when he accounted for Mark Carroll, of Wanganui, on a technical knock-out, but he will be against stiller opposition when he meets Hughes. The Aucklander has previously made it a rule to turn down matches outside of Auckland, but he has decided to waive it on this occasion.
Hughes, who is feather-weight champion of New South Wales, recently distinguished himself by going the full journey with Johnny Leclde, the New Zealand champion, the best boxer in New Zealand at the present time. Hughes should be the best man at th© weight whom Hatton has met so far, and the bout should give a good idea of the Aucklander’s chances if matched with Leckie.
