SEINE NET FISHING
GULF RESTRICTIONS “Supplies of fish in the Hauraki Gulf are becoming scarcer every year, chiefly through the operations of the trawling fleet,” said Mr. C. A. Whitney at a meeting of the council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society last evening. Although the question was not really in the society’s province it should support the Bill to be presented to Parliament this session which has the restriction of the use of seine nets for fishing in the Hauraki Gulf as its aim.
The chairman, Mr. P. E. McKenzie, said the society should do everything possible to support the Bill. It was a very important question and the society had done much work in connection with it. The council decided to give its support.
