BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH
RATES INCREASED BY FARTHING The Birkenhead Borough Council held a special meeting last evening in committee to consider estimates. The Mayor, Mr. E. G. Skeates, presided. On resuming in open council the Mayor gave notice to move “that a special meeting of the council be held on Wednesday, July 25, to strike the rates for the year of 6*d in the £, the water rate to remain the same as last year. The rates last year were 6id in the JL , an increase this year of one farthing in the £, is due to the extra hospital levy, and the water loan just carried.
