Turning for home Kilmiss had charge from Royal Mint, Ring Boy and Nukumai. At the false rail it looked as if Ring Boy would pull through, but lie was actually the first one beaten. Then Nukumai took charge at the distance, and when looking all over a winner Bisox came with a rattle to beat him by half a length. Three and a-half lengths away was Ring Boy, with Royal Mint and Black Mint at the head of the remainder, Paitonu being the last to cross the line. The winner paid a double-figure dividend.
