STOCK MARKET REVIEW
l i HIGH PRICES AT ! _— ' July 12!, 9 a.m. Throughout the Dominion a firm tone continues to be registered In the market for all classes of stock. The sustained healthy tone of the overseas markets IS largely rel sponsible. ‘ At “'esti‘ield yesterday a small yard—ling of 0); beef and an average yard‘ing of cow and heifer bee]? met with at ‘market firm to slightly in advance of ‘lust week‘s rates. Extra choice ox ‘made to 365 a hundred,’but very few lines sold at that figure. n the ox beef section, \vhile there were several lines of well-finished young cattle specially suitable for butcher‘ purposes, there were no extra heavy—weight bullocks forward, and the greater part of the yarding comprised light and mediocre tattened ‘ steers. Clean lines of beef cattle were few and far between in the cow and heifer sections, the offerings comprising mostly culls from dairy herds. Several lines of solid weighty young cows came forward, however, and these met; with keen competition at rates equal to any registered at VVestfield this season. Sharp Advance in Sheep A short yardng of fat sheep saw the market close fully on a par with the high levels reached in June. Halfway through the sale values were fully 33 to 45 in advance of those ruling dur» ing the past three weeks. The sale opened practically on a par with late rates, with the bigger buyers not operating very freely. Two or three lines were passed in, however. and the market gradually strengthened to reach the levels mentioned. Two lines of specially well—finished wethers on account of different vendors made 475. 'Apart from a few specially choice pens of both wethers and ewes, the sheep yarding was a. very mediocre one, many inferior finished sheep being included in the offering. No doubt on account of the small lines not al—lowing the opportunity for division, the majority of the pens were very un—even. This was even noticeable among the higher—priced lots. Exporters Not Operating \Vith the firmer market for beef at \Vestiielrl yesterday exporters were not so prominent. and although following the sale, came in on only those lines which happened to lag slightly behind
‘me‘e'e'e "M C 'efiimt"'“’seléieieie§%~§-‘e JO 3%62‘. the higher price level. In the fat sheep ‘pens. with the exception of a buyer for the islands. who, it might be men—tioned, paid the top price for wethers, exporters‘ operations were practically negligible. A small yarding oi? calves, which comprised few well—finished vealers of any description and a. larger percentage of small and fresh—dropped than at late sales. met a. very firm market. “fell-nourished small calves only a. week or so old were making fronl 95. Figs met with a. keen demand, and the market for porkers and stores showed a. slight advance. Addington Market At Addington yesterday the first cattle from the North this season came forward in several good qualtiy lines from the VVunganui district. South Otago, Southland and “fast Coast ven—dors were also represented. A heavy entry of 608 head resulted and there was consequent weakening in the market for steers and inferior beef of 205 a. head. The market for well-fin-ished young cows and heifer beef was not affected. Extra. prime beef made to 415. Extra. heavy prime steers mak—ing up to £24 25 6d. Extra. prime heifers nlade to £l4 75 6d. _
