SYDNEY SHEEP SHOW
STUD ANIMALS FOR N.Z. BRITISH BREEDS DISAPPOINTING After attending the Merino Sheep Show in Sydney, Mr. L. Macfarlane, a well-known run holder of North Canterbury, is convinced that the- British breeds of sheep in Australia are very disappointing when compared with those in New Zealand. Mr. Macfarlane returned from Australia this morning by the Ulimaroa and will leave this evening for Christchurch. *
It was a marvellous show of Merinos, said Mr. Macfarlane, but the British breeds were very disappointing. The sheep which was sold for 5,000 guineas last year was again on view. The best price obtained at the show this year was 1,200 guineas, but others may have been sold at higher prices at private sale. British and New Zealand sheep sold well, particularly the Romneys, Corriedales and Border Leicesters. Three valuable stud sheep were purchased by Mr. Norman Rutherford, of North Canterbury. The show lasts for three days and draws large numbers of spectators, said Mr. Macfarlane. “In fact,” he remarked, “anytiling in Sydney draws a crowd.”
