A JOCKEY’S LICENCE
DISSATISFACTION EXPRESSED An application for a jockey’s licence was received from A. E. McMullan by the Greymouth Jockey Club. The application was supported by Mr. W. E. Williams, president of the Westland Racing Club, and a medical certificate from Dr. J. 33. Bairds (Hokitika) concerning a permanent injury to the applicant’s left arm resulting from a racing accident five years ago. The certificate stated that the injury precluded McMullan from doing any work of a laborious nature. The chairman said he could not understand why McMullan’s licence was being kept back. He moved that the licence be recommended to the Conference. Mr. Beban, who seconded the motion, said he thought McMullan was entitled to a fairer deal. Mr. Perotti expressed the opinion that there must be some other reason behind McMullan’s treatment by the Conference. Mr. Beban: There should not be any reason for further delay. The application should be dealt with by the Conference this week. The chairman’s motion was carried unanimously. Another For Australia Clarendon, the two-year-old son of Psychology and Pendant, was shipped to Sydney last week. He has an A.J.C. Derby engagement and no doubt much depends on how he shapes in Hew South Wales whether he will stay there for long or not. He will be trained, it is stated, either by George Price or by F. McGrath. Clarendon showed fair form last autumn, and but for a slight mishap during a race at Napier Park he might have done even better. He is an attractive customer, but whether he will prove up to the required standard remains to be seen. Certainly that £ 8,000 Derby prize is alluring.
