LIFE LOST IN FIRE

ELDERLY MAN’S DEATH INQUEST AT DUNEDIN (Special to THE SUN) DUNEDIN, Monday. An inquest into the death of Mr. Horace Mann, aged 62, who lost his life in an attempt to rescue his sister from their burning home, was opened to-day. Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M., presided. Evidence of identification was given by Albert Ernest Gascoigne, who stated that he had known the deceased for over 30 years. He had been on a walking tour yesterday and was in his usual good health when witness left him. Ths inquest was adjourned sine die. Mr. Mann, who was unmarried, was at one time a partner in the firm of Iverr and Mann, men’s outfitters, and after Mr. Kerr’s death he established a mercery store in George Street. He was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge and was also a member .of the Masonic fraternity. He was an enthusiastic walker and was a member of the Dunedin Tramping Club.
