INTER-CLUB BADMINTON
FIRST MATCH AT MANGERE AUCKLANDERS DEFEATED The first Auckland inter-club Badminton match was played at Mangere last evening. Mangere beat Auckland by 6 games to 3, with one game unfinished. Mangere Club is in its first year, but Auckland has been playing for two. However, tlie suburban club, with a membership mostly of good tennis players, has been intensively coached and last evening displayed better knowledge of combination. The results were as follows, Mangere names being mentioned first; Women’s Doubles. —Mrs. Dart and Miss Solomon beat Mrs. Langgruth and Miss Macfarlane, 15 —9, 15—12; Misses K. and M. Walter lead 15—13, B—4,8 —4, from Misses Berry and Harty, but Miss M. Walters dislocated a shoulder and the match was unfinished. Mixed Doubles. —Miss I<. Walters and Kissling lost to Miss P. Harty and Rishworth, 4 —15, 3—15; Miss M. Walters and Blliott beat Miss Macfarlane and Langguth, 15—9, 15—8; Mrs. Dart and Jones beat Mrs. Langguth and Southern, 15— 10, 10—15, 15—11; Miss Solomon and Dart beat Miss Berry and Kelly, 5—15, 15—6, 15—13. Men's Doubles.—Dart and Jones lost to Southern and Kelly, B—ls, 11 —15; Elliott and Kissling beat Langguth and Rishworth, 15—11, 15—13. Singles (first year players).—Miss B. Solomon lost to Miss M. Macfarlane, 7—ll, 6—11; Elliott beat Rishworth, 15—S, B—ls, 15—9. The best match of the evening was that between Miss Solomon and Dart and Miss Berry and Kelly, the Mangere pair having a slight advantage in courtcraft. Superior smashing gave the KellySouthern combination a small advantage in the first men’s doubles. In the other doubles the Mangere combination was too good. In the singles the women’s game was more even than the scores indicated, and the men’s was a great exhibition. Elliott standing the pace a little better,. The easy win of Miss Harty and Rishworth was on account of the difference between the women players. In the next game Miss Walters displayed a great ability to smash and the Mangere combination was better.. In the other mixed double Mrs. Langguth played at her best, but lack of understanding on the side gave Mrs. Dart, the best woman player in Auckland, opportunity for placing .
