FRUITFUL YEAR

ADVERTISING CLUB’S BIG WORK MUCH ACCOMPLISHED The Auckland Advertising Club has succeeded in at least one o its objects —that of promoting the fraternal spirit. That spirit was unmistakably present when the club held its annual meeting and smoke concert last evening. The meeting was held in the Lewis Eady Hall, which was decorated with a number of striking examples of advertising poster work. The president, of the club. Mr. Lewis Eady, was in the chair, and there was an attendance of about 150 members. Stallholders at the recent Advertising Exhibition were present as guests of the club. Reporting on the work done during the year, the president said the club was not the “lengthened shadow of a single man,*’ because it had forged ahead through the common endeavour of all members. In constructive service, the Publicity Committee and latterly the Booklet Committee had accomplished much. The Booklet Committee had arranged for the distribution overseas of a booklet describing the attractions of Auckland City and Auckland Province. This proposal had been placed before leading local bodies with gratifying results, and with the grants made, the publication of the booklet was practically assured. EXHIBITION SUCCESS The recent exhibition was also an excellent piece of constructive service in that it was promoted to advertise advertising, and convey something of modern advertising and business methods as potent factors in promoting Empire, national and individual prosperity. It was a fitting climax to the year’s activities. Mr. Eady went on to say that the club now had a membership of 210, and there was a credit balance of £I9S on the year’s working. He thanked the committees, the executive, and the secretary and treasurer for their cooperation during the year. OFFICERS ELECTED The following officers for the ensuing year were elected: —President, Mr. A. H. C. Lees; vice-president, Mr. G. C. Codlin: executive, Messrs. W. H. V. Taine, John Clark, F. F. Levy, W. J. Pascoe and F. W. Petterd; secretary, Mr. A. M. Niblock; treasurer, Mr. G. Finn; auditor, Mr. G. Gray Campbell. The Clinkard Cup, which is awarded each year to the member who has done the best work for the club, was presented to the winner, Mr. John Clark. The members, to show their appreciation of the work done at the exhibition by Mr. Eady, presented him with a souvenir album containing photographs and all Press cuttings relating to the exhibition.

The following toasts were honoured: “Exhibitors and Visitors,” “Local Bodies,” and “the Club and Its President.”
