WHIRL OF POLITICS

EXCLUSION OF PUBLIC SERVANTS LABOURITES SEEK FREEDOM Press Association WELLINGTON, Saturday. Replying to a deputation of the Labour organisations and Members of Parliament in the Labour Party today. who are seeking amending legislation to provide that public servants who appear as candidates at the general election should not lose their status in service, tho Prime Minister, the Rt. lion. J. G. Coates, said that nobody was anxious to deprive public servants of their right to take part in political contests. At the same time a good many people felt it - was not a good thing to encourage public servants to participate in the whirl of politics, but he himself was averse from imposing disabilities on public servants simply because they figured as candidates. He could not give the deputation any promise but would place the matter before Cabinet and endeavour to get a decision at an early date.
