OBITUARY
MR. J. FITZGERALD The death of Mr. James Fitzgerald, of Ruakaka, T© Aroha, occurred this week at the age of 73 years. He was born ip Carterton and after residing in the Poverty Bay district for 38 years, went to live at Te Aroha and purchased a farm, and also one at Manawaru. For some time he was a member of th© Piako County Council. In his younger days he was a noted athlete. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and four sons. LADY MARY JOAN JOHANSEN Lady Mary Joan Johansen, who died at her home, St. Aubyn Street, Devonport, on Tuesday at the age of 77, was the wife of Sir Edward Valdemar Johansen, who was many years ago chief consul in New Zealand for Denmark and vice-consul for Norway and Sweden. The knighthood in the Order of Franz Joseph I. was conferred upon him by the Emperor of Austria and King Christian IX. of Denmark and was endorsed by Queen Victoria. Born in Manchester in 1851, Lady Johansen was married in the same city in IS7S. Sir Edward and Lady Johansen came to New Zealand in 1882, and they have lived at Devonport for the past 35 years.
