Reed, noon LONDON, Wednesday. The death is announced of Sir David Yule, aged 70. Sir David, who was a bank and insurance director, was considered to be one of the half-dozen richest men in Britain. He was stated to be worth £11,000,000. He lived in comparative obscurity, and was a man of simple tastes. A British Official Wireless message says Sir David Yule’s fortune is variously estimated at from £10,000,000 to £20,000,000, and was built up in business in the East. He lived the greater part of his life in Calcutta and most of the substantial
possessions in India controlled by his firm were established by him. During the war, he offered to throw over the whole of his jute mills for the making of sandbars for the trenches. He lived a secluded life, both in Calcutta and in London, and was a generous benefactor. His gifts sometimes amounted in single donations to £ 50,000. They were invariably made anonymously. It is believed that Sir David Y r ute’s fortune will go to his daughter Gladys, his only child, aged 24. She will become the richest heiress in the world.
