FIANCEE OF PRINCE

JAPAN’S GREAT WELCOME TO MARRY CHICHIBA TOKYO, June 27. Notwithstanding driving rain, crowds of labourers, students and school children, some of the adults dressed in silk hats and coats in the modern style, others wearing kimonos in the old style, joined the immense throng which greeted the Ambassador to Washington, Mr. Tsuneo Matsudaira, and his family when the liner Shinyo Maru docked at Yokohama. They cheered Miss Setsuko Matsudaira as the fiancee of Prince Chichibu, brother of the Emperor Hirohito, and as the possible future Empress of Japan.

The ambassador and his family proceeded in a special car to Tokyo, where thousands of people cheered them at the railway platform. It is expected that the date of Prince Chichibu’s wedding will be announced shortly. It will probably be fixed for late in September or early in October.
