N.Z. NAVIGATOR OFFERS TO STEER OVER TASMAN
CABLES TO KINGSFORD SMITH Press Association WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A New Zealand-born officer, Mr. D. Burgess, following - the request of a deputation, has cabled to Captain Kingsford Smith offering his services as navigator for the trans-Tasman flight. He is third officer on the Makura and not uuknown to Captain Smith, having met him on several occasions when the Makura was at San Francisco. There is a feeling that the flight should be shared by a New Zealander, and it was this that the deputation put to Mr. Burgess. No difficulty is anticipated with the Union Steam Ship Company in getting leave, should Captain Smith favour the request.
