“The Curiosity Shop"
AUCKLAND’S FIRE ALARM “ A UCKLAND is caHed the Curiosity Shop of Fire Services,” announced Cr. T. J. Watts at the Newmarket Borough Council last evening, in discussing a proposal of the Auckland Fire Board to take over the fire control of Newmarket for three years at an annual cost of £6OO, providing the Newmarket Borough installed duplex alarms at a cost of £450. Cr. Watts said there was an additional cost of £6 10s a mile for wiring the alarms. Auckland city, he added, was a conglomeration of different systems. Cr. Watts, who is also superintendent of the brigade, w/l report.
